The initial 49.9km phase of the line will link DeBary with Sand Lake Road south of Orlando. The project includes track-doubling, signalling improvements, a new control centre, and the construction of 12 stations. Commercial services will begin on this section of the line in 2014.

Phase 2 will extend the line north to DeLand and south to Poinciana with five additional stations, taking the total length of the route to 98km. Construction is due to start on the second phase in 2014 and services will be launched in 2016.
Last November the State of Florida concluded the acquisition of the DeLand - Poinciana line from CSX, which retains exclusive running rights for freight services. In the long-term, CSX will divert up to nine trains per day through Ocala to accommodate SunRail services.
