Due to open in 2021, the 37.6km elevated electrified line will link the Philippines National Railway (PNR) station at Tutuban in northern Manila with Malolos to the north of the capital. The line will reduce the travel time between Manila and Malolos from around 1h 45min to 35 minutes and is forecast to carry more than 300,000 passengers a day.

The stainless steel-bodied EMUs will be based on J-Trec’s Sustina product platform, with a design capacity of 2242 passengers. The DOTr says it reached an agreement with the joint venture prior to contract signing to bring forward the completion date for delivery of the fleet from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the third quarter.

The fleet will be maintained at the line’s depot in Valenzuela.
