The first three four-car trains are now in passenger service on lines S1 to Terassa and S2 to Sabadell.

FGC has ordered 24 of the 90km/h trains from a consortium of CAF and Alstom in a contract worth €151m. Five of the trains will be delivered as three-car sets (designated class 114) for operation on line L7, which has shorter platforms.

The standard-gauge aluminium-bodied emus are being assembled at CAF's Zaragoza plant and Alstom's Santa Perpetua de Mogoda facility near Barcelona, with each manufacturer supplying 12 sets. Deliveries are due to be completed next year.

Each 80m-long four-car train will accommodate up to 780 passengers, while the 60m-long three-car sets have a maximum capacity of 581.

All of the trains will be named after towns served by FGC commuter services.
