DB ordered 60 of the three-car dual-voltage trains from Bombardier in 2013 and the first of these will be delivered to Hamburg early next year for the start of a nine-month pre-series test programme.

The six pre-series trains are divided into two batches: three are 1.2kV dc third-rail only whilst the other three are dual voltage 1.2kV dc third rail/15kV ac overhead.

Bodyshells are being fabricated at Bombardier's Wroclaw plant in Poland and are delivered to Hennigsdorf fully painted and fully glazed.

Production of the main series of 54 trains will start in March 2017 and the contract includes options for up to 86 additional trains.
