The base order is for 50 coaches and this will be increased by a further 71 vehicles if funding becomes available.
Work will take place at Talgo’s facilities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with delivery of the first coaches expected 450 days after the Notice to Proceed. After the first 10 vehicles are received, Metrolink is planning to receive batches of five coaches every 90 days. Delivery of the 50th vehicle is expected in April 2023.
The scope of the overhaul includes updating the control voltage and battery system (charger and batteries), lighting, bogies, passenger communication system, remodelling toilets, installing eco-friendly HVAC systems, updating door operators and controls, repainting the exterior, providing new seat cushions and coverings and installing new floor coverings.
Proposals for the contract were evaluated according to board-approved criteria. This included past experience, qualifications of prime contractor and subcontractors, financial capacity, management approach to work, overhaul capacity, capability and schedule acceptability and systems and component integration, testing and qualification.
