Stalder supplied the Kiss and Kiss 2 sets in 2011 and 2017 respectively and DB announced its intention as a so-called ex ante transparency information in the Official Journal of the European Union. Delivery of the refurbished class 4010 six-car Kiss 1 and class 4110 four-car Kiss 2 trains sets should take place no later than March 2022.

Work will include extending the class 4110 EMUs to six-car trains while all 17 trains will receive an interior makeover including the addition of new passenger information and IT systems. The refurbished trains will also feature a new livery.

In addition, the train’s ETCS on-board system will be updated to Baseline 3. When the work is completed, the EMUs will be authorised for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

DB plans to operate the trains on its new inter-city service from Dresden via Berlin and Oranienburg to Rostock.
