BRITISH organisation HS2 Ltd has begun the search for a contractor to build its £370m Interchange station near Birmingham Airport.

It is expected that the station will be one of the best connected on the high-speed network when it opens, and it will also form the basis for neighbouring developments that will support new businesses, jobs, and homes. The station will be situated near the city’s airport while the West Midlands Metro is also being extended to the area.

The tender shortlist for the contract will be announced later this year, with the contract awarded next year.

Birmingham Interchange will be served by five trains per hour,  and will be one of four stations on Phase One of HS2 when it initially opens in 2029-2033. The others will be at London Euston, Old Oak Common in west London and Birmingham Curzon Street.
