The scope of the contract with Ramboll includes examining alignment options and assessing potential environmental impacts.

The double-track line will be built for 250km/h operation with new stations at Mölndal, and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport.

Construction is expected to begin in 2025-2027 and the government has allocated SKr 3.8bn ($US 400m) to the project as part of the 2018-2029 National Plan for the Transport System.

The line will ultimately form part of the high-speed network linking Stockholm with Gothenburg and Malmö.
