Taiwan's president Mr Ma Ying-jeou and transport minister Mr Chen Jianyu attended the opening ceremony at Yunlin station, with a live video link to ceremonies at the two other new stations, Miaoli and Changhua.
In addition to the three new stations, Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) is planning to open a 9.2km extension to Nangang in Taipei next July.
