CAF USA will assemble the vehicles at its plant in Elmira, New York state. The order follows and is linked to CAF's contract with Cincinnati, which also entails the supply of five vehicles. Kansas City expects to receive the LRVs late next year, allowing revenue operation to begin in 2015.
Last month Kansas City Council awarded a contract to a joint venture Herzog Contracting and Stacy & Witbeck for construction of the north-south line. The total cost of the project is $US 102m.
