The 100% low-floor vehicles are destined for use on a new 14.4km line in Delingha, the capital of Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, which is nearly 3000m above sea level. The 19-station line is due to open later this year.
CRRC says electrical systems have been designed specifically to cope with operation at high altitude and materials have been specially selected to improve resistance to low temperatures and ultraviolet radiation.
The vehicle is equipped with a supercapacitor and lithium-titanate battery energy storage system for catenary-free operation. Charging takes place at stations with a 30-second cycle time.
The 70km/h two-section tram will accommodate 168 passengers and has an entry floor height of 350mm.
