The opening ceremony was attended by the Italian president, Mr Sergio Mattarella, the minister of infrastructure, Mr Danilo Toninelli, and the European Union’s commissioner for regional policy, Mrs Corina Cretu.

The opening extends the Florence light rail network to 16.8km with 37 stops. Gest, a subsidiary of Groupe RATP, which operates the network, will provide 900 trips per day with LRVs operating at 4min 20s headways during peak periods.
