The fleet will enter service across the entire HEAG mobilo network, replacing the existing fleet of 10 ST12 series high-floor LRVs, which will be 30-years-old when the new fleet is delivered between mid-2022 and October 2024.

The 43m-long, five-car low-floor vehicles will have space for 284 passengers, including 103 seated. The wheelchair spaces are positioned in the same place as in the previous models, making them easier to find. Large panoramic windows will provide an improved view outside the vehicles, which are fitted with modern CO2 air-conditioning systems which is more environmentally friendly than conventional refrigerants.

The vehicles are fitted with a driver assistance system with traffic sign recognition, increasing safety, while Stadler says the vehicle’s new and innovative bogie technology will help to optimise installation space and increase passenger comfort while making the vehicles more efficient and easier to maintain.

“The procurement of the 14 new ST15 trains is the largest investment in the history of HEAG mobilo,” says Mr Michael Dirmeier, managing director of HEAG mobilo.
