According to the motion, which was adopted by a 71% majority, a conceptual plan for the project will be completed by mid-2020. This will examine possible route options and extensions, construction timeline and impacts, traffic forecasts, and economic and social benefits.
The decision comes three years after the city abandoned the €380m StadtRegionalBahn Kiel tram-train project.
