The $US 805.6m contract covers the first 14.5km of the extension from APU/Citrus College east to Pomona, plus a two-year option to complete the remaining 5.3km section of the 19.8km extension to Montclair. Completion of the $US 1.19bn project is dependent on the authority securing additional funding by September 2021.
The first phase includes the relocation of an existing freight line to accommodate light rail tracks, upgrading or eliminating 40 level crossings and the construction of four stations at Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona. The final section to Montclair includes an intermediate station at Claremont.
Olympic Games
Construction is expected to start in 2020 and it will take five years to complete the first section to Pomona and a further three years to build the extension to Montclair. The extension is one of Los Angeles Metro’s 28 priority projects to be completed before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Speaking about the award of the contract, Mr Tim Sandoval, chairman of Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority and Pomona mayor, said: “This team presented the best of both worlds: the top ranked team in all technical categories and the lowest bid price based on the formula set out in the RFP for the base scope to Pomona and contract option to Montclair.”
