The consortium, which comprises Colas Belgium, Colas Projects, Colas Rail Belgium, CAF Investment Projects, and investment fund DIF Infrastructure V was selected as preferred bidder for the contract in September 2018.

The 31-year contract includes a 45-month design and construction phase and a 27-year maintenance phase.

The line will serve 21 stations, running on a dedicated alignment for 90% of its 11.7km length.

Colas’ €266m share of the contract includes design and construction of stations, track, electrification, and structures as well as urban redevelopment work and ancillary projects promoting soft mobility. CAF is responsible for the design and supply of systems and rolling stock, including 20 low-floor LRVs, signalling and telecommunications.

The line will be maintained by a company comprising colas Belgium, Colas Rail Belgium, and CAF Belgium.

Construction will begin later this year with commissioning scheduled for October 2022.
