The initial 7.1km section of Nice Line T2 from Magnan to Cadam opened on June 30. The central section from Magnan to an interchange with Line T1 at Jean Médecin is due to open next June and the remainder of the line to Port Lympia will be completed by September 2019. When all phases are complete, Line T2 will be 11.3km long with 20 stations, four of them underground.

Line T2 will reduce the journey time between airport Terminal T2 and the port to 26 minutes, compared with 1h 3min for the current bus trip.

Around 105,000 passengers are forecast to use the line in the first year of operation, increasing to 140,000 in the longer term.

Line T3, which will serve the western side of the city, is due to open at the end of next year.

Nice Côte dAzur Metropolitan Council awarded Alstom a €91m contract in October 2015 to supply 19 Citadis X05 LRVs for Line T2 and ground-based Static Charging Zones (SRS) to enable catenary-free operation.
