This is the second extension to the deadline, which was originally fixed for August 22, and later extended to September 28. The new deadline is October 22.

Mr Jose Perpetuo Lotilla, transport under-secretary with DOTC, says the extensions have been granted following revisions to the instructions to bidders, clarifications made to bidders, and requests from bidders for more time. However, Lotilla says the DOTC is unlikely to extend the deadline further.

The extension to the 20.7km Line 1 will be 11.7km long, of which 10.5km will be elevated and the remaining 1.2km at grade. Eight stations will be built initially with provision for another two. A fleet of 39 LRVs will be acquired under a separate contract worth about Pesos 30bn.
