Potsdam Transport Authority (ViP) has provided a Siemens Combino LRV, which has been equipped with video, radar and lidar to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. This data is sent to an onboard computer for interpretation and evaluation through algorithms, which can then trigger an appropriate automatic response to the situation.

The vehicle’s artificial intelligence capability enables it to respond to lineside signals and respond autonomously to hazards such as pedestrians and road vehicles.

A feature article on Siemens’ LRV automation project and the trials in Potsdam will appear in the September issue, which will be available from the IRJ stand at InnoTrans (Hall 6.2 stand 101).
