SINGAPORE’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and operator SBS Transit announced on September 7 the beginning of bi-directional services on the Punggol West Loop LRT, which they say will ensure faster trips and shorter waiting times for passengers.

The bi-directional services are expected to significantly reduce travel times and crowding during peak hours as passengers will no longer have to travel in the opposite direction from their destination. This will shorten the typical morning peak hour journey from Sam Kee to Punggol Town Centre station by about 15 minutes.

SBS Transit will also increase capacity on the Punggol East, Sengkang West and Sengkang East loops by adding an additional single-car train, or by running a two-car train instead of a single-car train at selected times.
