TESTING on the 7.5km Ankeng light rail line in Taipei, Taiwan, is due to begin early next year ahead of the line opening at the end of 2022 following delivery of the first LRV for the project.

Construction of the line, which will run from Shisizhang station on the Circular Line to Erbazi Botanical Garden, is 83% complete, with civil works and track laying completed on the at-grade section, and track laying and the installation of electrical and mechanical systems completed on the elevated section.

The first of 15 LRVs was delivered from Taiwan Rolling Stock Company in Hsinchu to Ankeng depot, with dynamic testing due to begin at the start of 2022.

The line will have four at-grade stations, five elevated stations and a depot, running along An Yi Road, An Jie Road and An He Road in Xindian, and crossing the Xin Bei Ring Express Road and Xindian Creek with the An Xin Bridge.

China Steel Corporation awarded Thales a contract in 2017 for the design and manufacture and delivery of signalling, automatic vehicle localisation, priority management, passengers and security services, communications and Operation Control Centre (OCC) systems.
