The 8km Uithof Line was originally due to be completed in mid-2018, but with the need to reinforce the line’s foundations in the area around Utrecht Central station, the opening date was pushed into 2019.

Test running began in February and the number of trams in operation has been incrementally increased. However, as not all conditions for the opening have been fulfilled, the opening date has been deferred from July 29 to December 16.

The delay will not have any impact on the budget, and the additional time will be used to fine-tune systems and solve technical problems with the aim of optimising operational performance when the line finally opens. Particular attention is being paid to the operation of axle counters, which are essential to the operation of safety systems.

The Uithof Line will operate at Line 22 using a fleet of Urbos low-floor LRVs supplied by CAF.
