The tender will be launched by the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) on behalf of the German states of Brandenburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Meckenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin. It will cover services operating on 20 routes covering 23 million train-km per year.

The following lines will be included in the concession:

• RE 1 Magdeburg - Brandenburg an der Havel - Frankfurt an der Oder
• RE 2 Wismar - Wittenberge - Cottbus
• RE 4 Stendal - Rathenow - Ludwigsfelde - Jüterbog
• RE 7 Dessau - Belzig - Senfenberg
• RE 9 Berlin Hbf - Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (when it opens)
• RB 11 Frankfurt an der Oder - Cottbus
• RB 13 Wustermark - Berlin Spandau
• RB 14 Nauen - Berlin Friedrichstrasse
• RB 20 Oranienburg - Potsdam Hbf
• RB 21 Griebnitzsee - Wustermark
• RB 22 Potsdam Hbf - Königs Wusterhausen
• RB 34 Potsdam Hbf - Michendorf
• RB 24 Eberswalde - Berlin Lichtenberg - Berlin-Brandenburg Airport - Wünsdorf - Waldstadt
• RB 33 Jüterbog - Berlin Wannsee
• RB 33ST Stendal - Tangermünde (option)
• RB34 Rathenow - Stendal
• RB51 Rathenow - Brandenburg an der Havel
• RB66 Berlin - Angermünde - Tantow - Polish border
• RB91 Frankfurt an der Oder - Polish border, and
• RB 93 Forst - Polish border.

The contract will run for between 12 and 15 years, starting from the start of the new timetable in December 2022.
