The Paris – Briançon and Paris – Rodez/Latour-de-Carol Intercités de Nuit couchette services operated by French National Railways (SNCF) were the only overnight trains to survive the government’s 2016 review of loss-making long-distance services.

“The current agreement between the state and SNCF [for the operation of these services] ends in 2020,” Borne says. “I announce that it will be renewed, which means our night trains will continue,”

The fleet of 66 Corail coaches will be upgraded with new berths, passenger Wi-Fi and power sockets, and new toilets. Borne says work will also be carried out to “ensure the robustness and safety of trains.”
