GRCL took over the 1067-gauge line in January for restoration works as part of the first phase of the narrow-gauge network rehabilitation programme, which is funded by Government of Ghana.
GRCL deputy managing director, Dr Michael Adjei Anyetei, said more than 300 rail workers were involved in the rehabilitation works, which included re-aligning the rails, replacing more than 30,000 sleepers and ballast renewals.
Restoration works have also been carried out on the 51km Kojokrom - Nsuta line, which carries manganese from the mines in Nsuta to the ports of Takoradi.
Chief director at the Ministry of Railways Development, Mr Siisi Essuman-Ocran, said provisions have been made in the 2019/2020 budget to continue to support the development of the existing narrow-gauge network, while also expanding the standard-gauge network.
