The order follows a €250m agreement with Siemens in August 2018 to supply 13 new seven-car Nightjet trains, which will be used on overnight services to Italy when they are delivered from 2022. The new order and will take ÖBB’s total fleet of new Nightjet vehicles to 231 new sleeping cars, couchettes, and seated vehicles.

ÖBB is currently operating 160 vehicles on its overnight trains and the expanded fleet will enable the operator to reach more destinations. ÖBB CEO, Mr Andreas Matthä has said that a Vienna - Paris overnight train is on his wish list and may start in 2024.
