Train punctuality was 91.4% in 2018 compared with a peak of 90.5% in 2017. The number of passengers arriving at their destination on time was 92.6%, 1% higher than in 2017.

Regional services, most of them run by operators other than Netherlands Railways (NS), had the best punctuality, with 94.5% of all regional trains running on time compared with 93.9% in 2017. However, punctuality of services running on the HSL-South high-speed line was only 82.7%, which is just above the minimum threshold set by the Ministry of Infrastructure for this line.

Prorail says punctuality is now at its highest level despite more trains running on the network, and the Netherlands has the third most punctual rail network in the world after Japan and Switzerland.
