A total of 39.41 million passengers travelled on NSB services between January and August, the highest ever recorded for this period.

The strongest growth occurred on the Vestfold Line between Oslo and Skien, where passenger numbers on regional services surged 24% to 2.57 million, driven largely by the introduction of 12-minute interval peak services between Lillestrøm and Asker in December 2012.

"We would like to achieve much more, but we are hampered by the lack of capacity," says NSB's chief operating officer Mr Tom Ingulstad. "This growth emphasises the need for the network to accommodate more and longer trains in the near future."
