The line is now the only non-electrified line in Slovakia operated with double-deck trains.

The coaches were previously used for suburban services in Munich, and are now hauled by Siemens Eurorunner diesel locomotives. Over the past six months, both the locomotives and coaches have undergone an approvals process to receive certification to operate on the Slovakian network.

The coaches are due to receive the yellow RegioJet livery in the coming days.

RegioJet carried a record 2.3 million passengers on the Bratislava - Dunajská Streda - Komárno route in the first half of 2019, 50% more than the same period last year.

RegioJet attributes the strong increase in passenger numbers to a growth in residents living in new residential areas surrounding Bratislava, as well as its entry into the Bratislava region’s integrated transport system last year.

Reconstruction works on the roads in and out of Bratislava have also contributed to a modal switch from road to rail.
