The pilot project will take place in the first half of 2013 and involves converting the restaurant cars from two IC-2000 double-deck sets to create what SBB describes as the "first ever Starbucks store on wheels."
The vehicles will be used on St Gallen - Geneva services during the first half of next year.
"Starbucks is a perfect partner for our range of services," says SBB Passenger CEO Mrs Jeannine Pilloud. "We would particularly like to attract young guests and business travellers."
SBB's Elvetino subsidiary remains in charge of on-board restaurants and has been closely involved in the project.
