The coaches will replace equipment from the 1970s and 1980s and VR says the addition of the new sleeper coaches to its fleet will guarantee the future of the Helsinki - Kolari overnight service. The long-distance double-deck coaches will have air-conditioning, electricity power points, and passenger Wi-Fi. The sleeper coaches will also feature toilets and a shower in each compartment.

VR launched the tender for the contract in June 2014 and is aiming to conclude the deal with Transtech in the spring. The order is part of its €2bn investment programme, which so far includes the procurement of new electric locomotives, additional double-deck coaches and restaurant cars.
