Alstom has already supplied more than 100 Metropolis trains for the 35.5km Circle Line and 20km North East Line and also provides maintenance training and supplies spare parts. The new trains will be built at its Barcelona site.

The extension to the Circle Line is scheduled to open in 2025 and will take its total length to 39.5km. The Circle Line Stage 6 project will effectively close the loop by connecting Harbour Front station with Marina Bay, adding three new stations at Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward. The line will improve connectivity from the west of the island to the central business district as well as new developments taking shape around Marina Bay. Alstom is supplying communications-based train control (CBTC) for the extension which will support driverless operation.

The 2km extension to the North East Line will run from the current terminus at Punggol to Punggol Coast station, supporting residential developments in the area. It is expected to open in 2023.
