Line 9 runs for 11.1km from an interchange with Line 2 at National Library to Beijing West and Guogongzhuang in the southwest of the city, where it meets the Fangshan Line. Around 23,000 passengers used Line 9 on its first day of operation.
Line 8 has been extended north from its original Olympic terminus at South Gate of Forest Park to reach Huoying and Huilongguan, while Line 15 extends east to Fengbo.
The opening of these lines takes the total extent of the 15-line network to 372km with 227 stations. A further 196km is currently under construction.
