The 18.9km elevated extension runs south from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and adds nine stations to the Indian capital's six-line metro network. Station roofs on the extension have been fitted with solar panels supplied by SunEdison which are expected to generate 2.5GWh of electricity a year. Solar panels are also being installed at Yamuna Bank station and yard.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is currently building a northern extension to the Violet Line from ITO to Kashmere Gate, where it will connect with the Yellow and Red lines. After completion at the end of the year, ridership on the 46.6km-line is expected to reach 195,000 passengers per day.
