The €1.3m project will be launched in September and will help Cairo Metro to build a complete railway safety management system, with all procedures adapted to national and international legislation. The project includes training a dedicated team of safety management staff to oversee the operation of the system.

The 27-month exercise will also be supported by Valencia urban rail operator FGV, Barcelona's FGC suburban railway, and Spanish transport engineering consultancy Ineco.

The project is part of a twinning programme promoted by the European Union (EU) which links public sector bodies in EU member states with those of other Mediterranean countries.
