Lahore’s Orange Line metro project involves the construction of a 27.1km line, including 25.4km elevated and 1.72km underground, with 24 elevated stations, two underground stations, and depots.

The 80km/h five-car trains have heat-resistant bogies to increase durability, an energy-saving air-conditioning system and systems configured to handle unstable voltage.

According to IRJ Pro, the $US 2.6bn project is 65% complete and has received additional funding from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Civil works on the 13.6km eastern section between Dera Gujran and Chauburji are being carried out by Habib Construction Services, while a joint venture of Reliable Engineering and ZKB is building the western section of the route. Electrical and mechanical works are being carried out by a consortium of China Railway Construction Corporation and Norinco.
