TRANSPORT for London (TfL) has agreed a contract with mobile phone companies Three and EE to deliver high-speed mobile coverage across the London Underground (LU) network.

TfL awarded a 20-year concession to BAI Communications (BAI) earlier this year, which will enable 4G and 5G-ready uninterrupted mobile coverage on the whole LU system.

All ticket halls, platforms and tunnels across the system will eventually have coverage, with the Elizabeth Line also having Wi-Fi connectivity within stations when it first opens in the first half of 2022, with this rolled out through the tunnels later in the year.

Mayor of London Mr Sadiq Khan says improving connectivity on the LU network is an important way of stimulating the city’s economy.
