The 1432mm-gauge trains will need to be 40m long and capable of operating in formations of up to three sets. The tender specifies a minimum curve radius of 60m, a maximum speed of 80km/h and "passenger friendly" gangways between vehicles.

The 750V dc third rail trains will need to be equipped for semi-automatic train operation under Grade of Automation 2 (GoA2) in accordance with IEC 62290-1 standards. The first trains must be approved for operation in manual mode (GoA1) by 2019 and the fleet will need to be certified to German BOStrab standards for operation across the entire U-Bahn network.
