KAOHSIUNG City Mass Rapid Transit Bureau has awarded ST Engineering, Singapore, a $S 430m ($US 320m) turnkey rail services contract for the new 11.27km Red Line south extension from Siaogang to Linyuan, as part of a larger contract with consortium partner Hyundai Rotem.

ST Engineering Urban Solutions will be responsible for systems integration and overall project management for the project. It will also supply a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (Scada) system, communications, automatic fare collection, platform screen doors and depot equipment. ST Engineering expects to start work on the project by middle of this year and the contract will run for nine years.

The Red Line extension will have one elevated and six underground stations and will run through three industrial parks and connect to Kaohsiung MRT’s Orange Line when it opens in 2030.
