The trains were originally supplied by Metrovagonmash and Vagonmash, Russia, between 1963 and 1980 and are used on the 23km Line 1 between Sviatoshyn and Brovary.

The extensive modernisation will include the installation of new asynchronous traction motors, new power equipment as well as a complete upgrade of the car body.

Situated in Kremenchug in central Ukraine, Kryukov Wagon Plant specialises in the production of wagons, coaches, and metro cars. The company is currently supplying new trains for Kiev Line 3.
