HRI says the new trains will be the same as those currently operating on lines 1 and 2, with full width gangways that allow passengers to see down the length of the train, air-conditioning, vandal-proof walls and CCTV.

Each 107m-long six-car train accommodates up to 1232 passengers, 204 of them seated, and has a maximum speed of 90km/h.

The 12 trains, which will be built at HRI’s plants in Reggio Calabria and Naples, are scheduled to be delivered in autumn 2019.
