The order is the final option in the original contract agreed in November 2010. 21 C2 trains were supplied initially and were followed by an additional 24 trains in September 2016. Upon delivery of the latest batch, Munich’s C2 fleet will comprise 67 trains, and will allow the phasing-out of MVG’s class A and B trains.

The new 940-seat trains will allow MVG to boost capacity without having to increase the frequency of services, while offering greater space and comfort for passengers. The new trains feature LED lighting, wider doors and open gangways.

The fleet is also more environmentally friendly, being made from 97% recyclable materials and consuming less energy than the older trains.
