The 4.1km extension from Kungsträdgården will serve new stations at Sofia, Hammarby Kanal, Sickla, Järla, and Nacka. A new platform will also be constructed at Gulmarsplan station.

The line will offer a 12-minute direct journey between Nacka and T-Centralen in Stockholm city centre.

The extension will run underground for its entire length and the environmental permit allows the management of groundwater levels to be carried out around the tunnels, which will be constructed using drilling and blasting.

The deepest station, Sofia, will have platforms 100m below the surface.

Construction is expected to begin later this year and will take 7-8 years to complete.
