Construction began in 2006 on Line 1, which runs for 25.7km from Mudu station in the west to Zhongnan Street in the east with 24 stations. A second 26.6km 22-station north-south line is also under construction and due to open in July 2013. The two lines will intersect at Guanji South Road station in the city centre.
Construction is due to start this year on two more lines, which are both expected to open by 2020. A 140km five-line network is ultimately proposed.
