Hendy became head of TfL six years ago and has since overseen record-breaking operational performance, passenger numbers as well the operator's largest ever investment programme. In addition he led TfL's preparations for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and played a key role in delivering a successful public transport strategy during last summer's events. He was awarded a knighthood earlier this year.
“It is a real privilege to take up the presidency of UITP's worldwide community of public transport professionals,” Hendy says. “The UITP is vital in sharing knowledge and expertise with world cities and we will be working together to make the case globally that investment in transport delivers growth and jobs.”
