The 5.5km extension will add five stations to the network. Construction is expected to start in 2021 and the extension will take five years to complete.
Federal funding is being made available through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan.
Initially estimated to cost $C 3.9bn, the government of Quebec confirmed earlier this year that the project is facing a $C 600m price escalation due to higher-than-anticipated property acquisition costs.
