Uttar Pradesh approves Kanpur metro plan

THE detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase of the metro network in the Indian city of Kanpur was approved by the Uttar Pradesh state government on March 14.

The Rs 137.2bn ($US 2bn) network comprises two lines totalling 32.8km with 31 stations, 19 of them elevated and 12 underground.

The 23.8km Line 1 will link the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur campus with Naubasta and includes 22 stations. Line 2 will run for 8.6km from Chandra Shekher Azad University of Agriculture to Jaurali with nine stations, including an interchange with Line 1 at Rawatpur Railway Station.

The DPR will now be submitted to the Indian government for final approval.
