THE Polish Office of Rail Transport (UTK) has issued the first single safety certificate for a Polish rail operator in accordance with the new rules set out in the European Union’s Fourth Railway Package.

The certificate was issued to Katowice-based regional passenger operator Silesian Railway (KŚ) and processed via the digital One-Stop Shop (OSS) tool developed and maintained by European Union Agency for Railways (ERA).

The certificate is unique as it covers border stations in the Czech Republic, which required detailed cooperation with the Czech rail safety regulator, Drážní Úřad.

The single safety certificate, which is valid for five years, replaces the previously issued safety certificates parts A and B, and confirms the fulfilment of new requirements for safety management systems set in the European Commission-issued Regulation 2018/762. Unlike the previous approach, all correspondence for the certificate is submitted via the OSS.
