The network serves Songjiang, a suburb of Shanghai, with a population of 1.8 million, and is expected to carry 170,000 passengers per day.
The tram network is operated by a fleet of 30 Alstom Citadis LRVs running at 10-minute intervals.
The Shanghai Keolis joint venture of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group and Keolis was awarded a five-year contract in August 2018 to operate and maintain the Songjiang network. The first 13.9km section opened at the end of 2018, followed by a second 12.86km section in August 2019.
