Speaking at the Russia-India session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 7, Misharin outlined the rail projects being implemented by the two countries and the prospects for further cooperation.

RZD is currently undertaking the third and final stage of the feasibility study for the Nagpur - Secunderabad upgrade under an agreement between RZD and Indian Railways. The line will be upgraded for a maximum speed of 200km/h.

“We expect that our Indian partners will soon decide the conditions for the further implementation of the project and the role that the RZD holding will play,” Misharin says. “One solution is an intergovernmental agreement on joint support for the project, which was proposed by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.”

RZD Logistics and Concor, Indian Railways’ largest container operator, have also signed a memorandum of understanding towards developing regular rail freight traffic along the North-South corridor. The two parties are now developing logistic schemes and tariff parameters for future freight traffic.
